Legend

Eva Acton Stokes is an internationally acclaimed progressive art rock singer/pianist from Denver whose unique music tends to put her in the same conversation as Jethro Tull, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and YES. Eva began her career at the tender age of fourteen, when she met a college prog rock band in her local music store and became their lead singer and lyricist, appearing on local TV and performing in schools. She fell in love with British Prog and European Rock and decided to move to Europe. Raised by her father, a concert pianist, Eva's graduation gift was a Steinway which she sold to pay for her travels. After busking and playing in bars from Sweden to Bavaria and France to Scotland, she settled in London where she became one of the young artists and producers mentored by audio legend Vic Keary. She soon met Peter Brown of CREAM, who produced her first EP. She sent the album to her former American bandmates who had moved to Los Angeles, and they invited her to join them in L.A. Eva moved again, and quickly put together a mini rock orchestra headlining L.A.'s rock clubs. Her manager introduced her to legendary music executive Artie Mogull, who offered her a major label contract. When this fell through, Eva elected to move to the California desert to produce and record her own music, honing her skills while creating her unique sound. During this period she also wrote a hilarious satirical memoir about her experiences as a young artist in Hollywood. Eva released her first self-made album, The Outer Limits (named after her Mojave Desert location) in 2012. The first single, “Pizza Guy” was a radio hit that got her a distribution deal in Europe and Asia. She followed this with an enhanced/remixed (by producer David Scheffler) version of that album, called “EvVa,” after which she went on the road, eventually relocating to the mountains near Seattle. She wrote and recorded the album “Syzygy” during the pandemic lockdown, which included performances by her old friend Malcolm Bruce and Seattle legend Jack Endino, who also mixed and mastered the album. Upon its release in July 2021, “Syzygy” spent several weeks in the top 10 on the International Independent Radio charts. Eva has been a guest on numerous pod-casts discussing her work and her eventful, adventurous life. Currently she is performing in Seattle and recording new music with her band, Kali Zsa Zsa. Current members are award-winning drummer Tommy Cook Jr., Beth Quist of Cirque du Soleil and Bobby McFerrin, bassist David Sterling, and singer Karyn Michaelson.
