ModPods are a post-punk, electro-dance trio fronted by Myriad Slits. They
have gained notoriety in the Los Angeles music underground, namely in the
arts, queer and femme scenes. Mindee Jorgensen and Daniel Guzman trade
between bass, drums and guitar interweaving live instrumental energy with
Myriad’s erratic electronic beats, powerful vocals and cutting lyrics. This
creates a unique and dynamic live show.
Influenced by Wynne Greenwood, Talking Heads, B-52s, Radiohead, The Slits,
Melvins, and Xray Spex, ModPods create controlled danceable chaos of computer
beats, effected guitars, deep bass and hard drums. The soundscape creates an
artful and gritty backdrop to Myriad’s soulful and fierce vocals.
We Are So, ModPods’ 2014 digital EP was re-released by Woody Records on
cassette tape in 2016. In 2017 ModPods made their full-length debut with No
Strut, released with Los Angeles label Animales de Estereo. No Stut caught
the attention of Melvins’ drummer Dale Crover who included the album in his
picks for favorite music of 2017 for RevolverMag.com. In the summer of 2018, ModPods were honored to be direct support for the legendary Melvins, touring with them in the US and Canada.
With the support of Animales de Estereo ModPods have released two music
videos, produced by the band and label owner Jesse Carbajal. The
video for “BFFFF” is a colorful, escapist, dream-like walk through eye candy.
The “Weepies” video is a dark trip into the void and premiered by L.A. Weekly
in June 2018.
In 2019 ModPods hit the studio to record their 2nd full length, Ma'am, with engineer Andrew Parra of Freedom Curse. After putting production on hold for the global pandemic, they got back in the studio to finish, and Ma'am was released January 2022.
